Has anybody spent any time (money?) looking over the new Abu Garcia Eon reels...I like the drag adjustment and the reputation (at least with me) of Garcia reels...Looking for replacements for my crank bait and spinner bait reels...

Check out our clubs web site for fun fishing games and quizzes...

Wow...nobody here with an opinion? That is a surprise! Maybe this will revive it for all who have severe cabin fever and an opinion after all.

I spent some time looking these reels over last year for musky use. Although I never fished with one, my general impression was that they were ok for bass and walleye applications but would not stand up to large pike and musky fishing. They are made with all plastic gears, as most reels today are, not the metal gears of the 5500 and 6500 Abu's. I liked the drag adjustment on the reel, but in the end decided it wouldn't work well for the application I wanted it for.

The Eon, and every other Ambassadeur EVER made, does not have plastic main gears! Some cog gears, those that turn the level wind, are plastic but they don't take much strain there.
Compare the Eon to the TE? Thats like asking about a Saturn and someone says buy a Mercades.

Thanx...I think I will buy "one" and try it for a few weeks...I'll report back...Been using Garcia's almost exclusively and will go with gut feeling that these are good reels...too.

Per the reps at one of the shows I attended, when buying an Eon ,make sure you have fresh stock.Open up the mag brake plate (not really magnets on this guy) and make sure the plastic adjustment clicker is red not black. If black,it is old stock with a known problem of kickin the spring . Red indicates the redesigned one with problem fixed.
