Already planning for next year. Never fished V. Lake before, and would like to know more about it. Right now our plans are to stay at "Life of Riley Fishing Resort" in Norwegian Bay, which is at the west end of the lake. We will mainly be fishing for walleye, but also enjoy pike, and a muskie would be nice. Due to the size and speed of my boat, we will probably stay in the area of where we stay. Is there such a thing as better fishing on one end than the other? I would hate to spend my time at one end, then find out that the other end is better fishing (of course my luck is that wherever I fish, it's always "should have been here last week" or "you should have fished the dam area instead.) Are there any particulars we should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have to run far to find the fish, V has so much structure all over the lake. We've had luck pulling cranks in 3-10 ft. in the morning and evening hours, mid day we usually move to structure that's near deep water and drop a orange-green jig and minnow down. Depending on the time of year,(dog days), you may have to get down to 40ft. on the "main" basin to find active fish. Work the deep edges of structure and you should catch fish?? But like you said... always biting on the other end! Good Luck.

Fished V. for the first time last year. I might suggest hiring a guide for a day and get acquainted with the water and presentations being used. The walleye bite may change day to day do to weather conditions. Check out www.lakevermilion.com it should help. We are going up in two weeks for a week stay. We mainly fished the West end last year. Jigs and minnows were used. The weather had been very cold and rainy for three weeks prior to out visit in late June. There are numerous places to fish for every species in this lake.

Thanks to both Gill and Birdog. Gill you're right. Hiring a guide for any new lake is top notch advise. Birdog, your info on lake structure makes me feel a lot more comfortable.

Greetings! When do you plan to go to Vermilion?
Our family stayed at Life O' Riley a few times and we really enjoyed it there. Good access to many fishing and exploring spots although that is normal for this lake.
For what it's worth I believe we have had better success in the Eastern/Lower lake in the fall; good success in both areas during the summer. One of the best "mixed bag" lakes anywhere!
Thanks!
