Hi Guys... This is my first post on the boards!
On June 20th through the 26th I will going up to a friend's cabin on a sleepy little lake in Northern MN... While he's been out of the country for the last 5 years his family has been gracious enough to let us use his week's share of time to take our traditional fishing vacation. (We all grew up together etc...)
For the last 5 years we've been going up to this lake and building some familiarity with it. Every year the guys put me in charge of making the plans, and coming up with a loose plan of fishing events etc...
The two things which have come up for this year that they'd like me to plan are:
1. A Dawn fish for Walleye.
2. A Night fish to get some suspended Crappies.
First the quicker question... Which is #2...
I know exactly where on the lake the Crappies Pod up at night... Right over an area called "The Pit" Every night at Dusk they seem to collect up and suspend over that deep water... Catching them however has been a flukey thing in the past.
On an expirament last year I attached a floating Jig head, and a split shot that was just light enough to "Slowly" pull the Jig and Leech down, and caught 2 crappies that way... But I'm sure there's got to be a better way...
They seem to hang out at 12-20 feet depending.

The more explative question #1 on Dawn Fishing for Walleye...
That one will require some more explanation....
First off the lake itself is not much of a Walleye fishery... It's a pretty good Pan Fishing lake, with a bunch of Northern... Many are hammerhandles, but every now and then a respectable one comes out.
Bass are pretty prevalent in the weedy shorelines. I would estimate that 75% of the lake's shoreline is loosely populated with lillys.
The Golden prize though is that there is a small population of trophy sized Walleye in the lake... Ever year without fail we catch one on accident, while pan fishing and lose it on the way to the boat. (The last 2 years they bent the Flu-Flu's straight!)
I'm wondering of these spots, where would you reccomend trying out at Dawn to purposely go for one of these ellusive monsters...
1. Voo-doo Point: A hump, 10 feet deep, located 20 feet out from the point between 2 bays... It has shallow sandy bottom on the landward side, that has a fast under current... And to the lakeward side it plumets down to 35+ feet.
2. Loon Cove: A 25 foot wide Channel between the Lillys, which is great for panfishing, and hooked a big Walleye last year.
3. Lucky Point... An area where a shallow point comes out 25 feet into the lake, and then meets a Drop off.
4. The Humps of Pickle Bay... Generally the bay is loaded with Pickles and Hammerhandle Northern... It's a conglomeration of Humps and trenches, which 4 years ago yeilding a large Walleye while trolling in Early evening.
5. The Flats: An area where three points meet, that created a Large shallow area with light to moderate weedy bottom... Water is aproximately 10-15 feet deep. It yeilds all the species of the lake seemingly at Random.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
