I understand the concepts of points, drop-offs, humps, and breaklines. But what's a reef?

When I Grow Up, I Want to be a Little Boy

A reef is sunken island. Underwater most if not all the time. Say most of the water in a very large circle is 30 feet. In the center the water depth decreases to 10 then maybe six etc. The reef may be very large of say several hundred feet long and might have it's own points coming off of it.
