If anyone is interested I came across a site where I saved $75.00 on the Garmin 182 GPS with external antenna. I bought the 182 for $625 the lowest I saw elsewhere was $699.00 for external, & the people were well informed of the products they sell & friendly. If your shopping check this place out and say Pat sent you & you want a good deal you'll be amazed website www.affordablegps.com or toll free 877-477-1680 I'm not sure if they are open on the weekend. They also carry locators. TIGHT LINES Pat Cavins

Pat,

You might have seen me mention On Line Marine (www.onlinemarind.com) a couple of times in the past couple of weeks. They are the folks I bought my 2006 from last week. They are selling the 182 (external antenna) for $615 once the instant rebate is applied and they have it with the internal antenna for $597. Same day shipping from them too.

Thats right I forgot about rebate so I'm down to $575 we should start a selling war. It goes to show there is some shops that don't just want your money. I tried shopping around here Green Bay they just won't deal. I'm pretty sure my rebate comes with unit & I mail it. Thanks Pat

Thom,

Is that not www.onlinemarine.com ????

www.onlinemarind.com was "not found" when I tried it. See??? Our grade school teachers were right ... spelling IS important. Gentle smile here ... been there, done that.

Yikes!!!! Sorry about that :( I went back and tied to edit the thing but the Password got me and I couldn't get access to the edit function.

You know, its annoying trying to find the best price on Garmin products, because of their policy of holding advertised prices to the Garmin-dictated price list. Of course the retailers are free to actually sell the things for whatever amount they choose but when you're hunting for a price sometimes (often I found) you have to actually fill out the order form and order one (add it to the shopping cart) to see how much they want for it. I spent about 2 hours on a fast computer when I went looking for my new one. Just did a Google search on the model name and number and then one after another just went to the sites and looked at the prices of the GPS, the Blue Chart, and shipping. I wrote them all down, high and low, and once I had a page and a half of prices I quit, went back and decided which one to use. When I had got it down to the least expensive three I called each of them and asked the straight forward question, "do you have one on the shelf and if I order it right now will it be shipped today?" Two of them said yes to both questions, one did not. From there it was easy, I could have flipped a coin but it seemed to me that somewhere I had heard of one of the companys before and I had not heard of the other one.

Anyway what is important is that we all share the information of what we found where. Goodness knows that this time next week someone else will have the very best price and two of the places on my long list will have gone out of business (as so many are in this recession) but at lest we will have been able to do each other some good. I like that! :)

I a bit confused about the rebate -- and what is needed to operate the GPS.

For example BPS Master Catalog, p. 249 lists the GPS 168 for $599. Does this include the Fishing Hot Spots map? I would like have the maps for Wisconsin. Do I subtract $50 from that price or do I have to purchase something else?

Are there maps for Lake Michigan -- near Green Bay. How about for Lake Winnebego?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the rebate is all available for, if your gonna spend that much get the Garmin 182 & Green Bay-Michigan chip it covers a lot & winnebago, it's just like looking at a hotspots map on your GPS, it's great for following contours, or locating reefs, humps, if they have a name on hotspots same name on GPS ie Strawberry Islands Green Bay. Good luck & buy the best you can afford. Pat

Is the 182 a sounder or just GPS?

Hm ... chip ... I thought that it was software driver, but I guess that is not true.

Everyone who is thinking of buying these units MUST remember one thing, Water is low and these charts do NOT adjust for that at all plus the fact that these units are not 100% accurate at all as you WILL find other rock piles that are not shown on the map the hard way, if you decide to run full trottle using these units! Just a reminder!! Wiz
