View Full Version : Where did they go ?
I have been catching saugeye all summer until the last two weeks in a local lake . This is a deep lake with some nice 10 ft flats and several points . Shad are everywhere every size know to man . I was catching limits pulling worms H , crankbaits and jigging spoons . I have stopped and talked to the other local guys who frequent the lake and they are singing the same song as me . Where did they go ? I fish from 6 in the morinig until three in the afternoon come back and fish the last two hours of daylight still no fish . Where are they ?

most likely deeper water. i don't know where you are located or where your lake is, but if you've had the heat wave like we've had in the midwest, your water probably got warmer and the fish went to the deeper, cooler water that holds more oxygen

if the lake is full if shad, this year's new crop might be getting meal sized-so you could be completing with a TON of forage, where earlier in the year, your presentation was much more desirable.
I dont know your lake, so I dont know for sure, just a thought.
Fished the flats and the dropoffs this morning for 3 hours caught 3 on the dropoffs . This lake is full of shad every size you can think of . The fish that were caught this morning were skinny not the normal fat football fish . Hey that is better than last week maybe they are coming back to locations that I fish . What a puzzle it has been for two weeks . I fished deep and shallow and didn't find them .
