I know when I like being on the water for my walleye fishing. I live on the River Raisin in Monroe and in a normal year/season, I am back at my dock many mornings with my limit by 9:30. That's with going through the no-wake zone on the river !!!

As we all know however, this is NOT a normal year/season for walleye. Like many others I am a frustrated walleye fisherman that is going to go after the perch this year. Normally I don't. What do you find to be the most productive times of day for perchin'?

Thanx in Advance for Your Replies,
Steve

Steve,
Personally I prefer late day as opposed to early AM for perchin'.
I wait until the main lake points are quite from boat traffic and I take the kids out for some exciting live bait time when the wakes subside. Nothing like bridges and points in early evening for good perch action in PA and MD. We rig up a few Lindy floats with live minnows and it's normally a great outing after dinner.

I love the hour before sunset. Furious action where I fish, just north of you near Sugar Island. Sunrise or sunset, I've found that the side of the boat facing the sun is always more productive. I never perch-fish in the shadow of the boat in shallow water.

Just made my first perch outing due to gas prices and it wasn't bad. Looks promising around here for the fall. Non-stop action from 7-8PM in 5 FOW by Powderhouse Island. Dozens of throw-backs, but did manage a few 8-10"ers. Might give it a try by Brest Bay this weekend.

edit: oops I should read better, north of me and Powderhouse would be Grose Isle !!!

You talkin' Sugar Island off of Grose Isle or off of Middle Bass Island? My thinkin is Mid-Bass?

Nope, near Grosse Ile. Weird that they're in the shallows already.

I like the morning if possible but fish the afternoon more often because I can get out after work. I live in the same area as you do and fish out of a different river in Monroe.

I frankly don't think the time of day means squat on Erie. Morning for me is 8-8:30 for walleye and perch. I actually did much better this year on the eyes in the evening though. I only bother trying to see the sunrise if I am salmon fishing, duck or deer hunting..... I think it really matters then.
