Hi Guys:

I leave for Canada in about 4 weeks. Have not had a full week's vacation in four years so this nine day trip is very exciting!

According to the charts, we will arrive on the day of the full moon. Does anyone have any strategy for fishing during that time? We plan to try the usual methods of jigging, drifting or trolling with bottom bouncers and spinners, rigging, trolling cranks, and maybe other methods of desparation as needed.

Thanks in advance for any tips. O F

With the full moon, if you're fishing at dusk/night, keep your baits UP in the water column and off the bottom! Old Marble Eyes is looking to "smash the bait against the moon"! Consider more shallow water (6 to 12 feet) at night and darker baits, even black.

Have a good time and enjoy your Vac.!!!!

Great time to troll cranks at night :)
Sometimes the moon doesn't rise until pretty late. Bring plenty of coffee.

What about New Moon. Will be fishing beginning of Sept. during the New Moon. Any advice??

If trolling, we slow down and go to live bait on harnesses both day and night. We keep the baits off the bottom and try different levels in the water column until we hit them. This is in the deeper water of the area that you are fishing. Keep in mind the structures from your finder and concentrate in those areas, deep or shallow!!

For the shallows, we crank them at night including the weeds and weed edges. Rattle baits are good too and, sometimes (wishfully), you can smack Walleye, Bass and humongous Pike both Northern and Musky all in one night! You can't beat it! There is NOTHING like a big fish smacking your bait in the cool, DARK (New Moon), calm and quiet night!!! ;-)

Enjoy yourself, the fish should be active.

Your advice is right on! We had a full moon in June this yr on Georgian Bay and were trolling gold Raps in 15-22 ft of water and smashed some huge walleyes (2 10's, 2 6's and a handful of 4 lb fish)around 10:30-11:00 p.m at night and they were all high in the water column(the 7 inch Rap runs about 6-7 ft deep).

You should be a guide!

The 2 most active periods seem to be 11a-2p and 1a-3a and also the hr before dark and after sunrise.
