View Full Version : Where to fish...Boulder Junction, Minocqua area weekend
We have a lake home in Minocqua and I'm bringing my buddy up for the weekend of September 17th. We do this at least once a year. We are both familiar with the Cisco Chain and Willow Flowage and we usually go to those bodies of water as well as lakes close to the lake home (Sunday and Squirrel). This year we'd like to hit some different lakes. We're catch and release and we're after walleye. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Check out a cite called lank-link.com There are local fishing reports posted there all the time for that area. I think if you search "Vilas" you will get alot of results. Hope this helps.......

forget about the Willow unless you have a shallow draft or are very familiar with it's many rock bars and giant boulders....it's already 9' below full and it's still August.

I believe the site is lake-link.com
Thanks, I'm very familiar with the Willow - been going there for about 25 years. There was very low water several years ago and it was fun to take the kids out walking the shores looking for crankbaits. However, like you said, with the low water you have to be really careful because the deadheads that were safely below the surface are now in reach of the lower unit.
Thanks, I am familiar with Lake-Link and I'm registered there.

I fish Big lake (hwy K)and the Manitowish chain starting in mid Sept. through oct. Big can be good in the weeds or on the rock bars depending on turnover. on the chain I usually fish rock bars (Clear lake might have some in the weeds). The turtle-flambeau can also be fun but it takes time to learn. I do well on Trout lake from opening through the end of June but can't catch anything but lake trout in the fall. good luck
Thanks s-bone! That was exactly what I was looking for to help narrow our search for a new lake(s) to try for the weekend. I'm leaning towards the Turtle Flambeau flowage. Thanks again and best regards,
FJH

One nice thing about the TFF is it has good fishing spring, summer, and fall (except mayfly hatch, June). Calm days can be tougher. breezy days fish windward rock points as shallow as two feet, also many stump humps (6-7 feet) in 10-12 feet of water. Mid sept. might be a little early for the deeper water lake basins but worth a look(20-30 feet) Keep an eye on locator and take your time. good luck
Thanks s-bone! I really appreciate the advise.
