We are looking to buy linecounters for the coming season.
We will only be using them from Walleye so we are thinking the 17 LC'S by Diawa. Any thoughts. it seems a lot of guys are using the 27 LC'
We currently are using Penn "9's"

17s are also nicer for handheld rods

Not an expert by any means, but have 4 17's and 2 27's. The 17's are perfect for anything but leadcore. Otherwise, if your going to use leadcore, go with 47's. The 27's are too small. If I had to do it all over, I'd have bought the 47's. Also, the walleye versions are nice, dual paddles on the handles. Overall, very nice reels for the money, very happy with them.

I agree the 27's are more versatile.

I have 27,17,and 47's.they all have there place. The 17's are light and great to use if you don't need aton of line out. The 27's are are the best all around reels . Not to big or heavy.the 47's are the best leadcore line counters there is.:boozer:

I dont care for the 17's .I have four of them and they have been nothing but problems. Actually daiwa is taking them back and upgrading me to the 27 models, great customer service, took them back no problem( maybe they knew they have had a problem with 17's from day 1

Don't know where you're from and it really does not matter. Den at Sportsman's Outpost (Vermilion Ohio) sells and services them all. He is a total straight shooter and will gladly spend the time to discuss it with you. I'd go with the 27s, but there's more to talk about then I have time right now..., so call Den at 888 855 9032. Tell him it's ETT's fault. Good luck and happy hunting.

I use 17s on my big board rods most of the time and love them. I wouldn't want them for small boards or dipsies.

I use 17's for fireline, 27's for mono and 47's for lead.

I use the 27's for all my trolling except leadcore, then I use the 47's. I didn't care for the 17's.

What kind of problems have you had with your 17's?

I run the 17's, they have been flawless for longlining and pulling boards, smooth drags.

A Daiwa 27 has the same capacity as a Penn 9. Do you have too much line now?

No problem with the penn's but just wanted to use the line counter part.

I understand. I'm just saying that is you go with a 17, you'll lose line capacity. A 27 will retain the line capacity you're used to.

The Daiwa SG's will feel much better than a Penn 9 though.

Got rid of all the Diawa's last year and moved up to Shimano Tekota's, without a doubt one of the best moves I ever made. The drag system is far superior to the diawa, as smooth as any of my spinning reels. Counter never stops like the Diawas. Now just have to get them back from fishing partner.
