Today I had the misfortune of losing the biggest trout that I've ever had the pleasure of tangling with. It was my own fault. I left the net at home and that greatly reduced the chance of landing what was darn close to a two footer on
8 lb test. Catch and release is not allowed where
I hooked him so maybe it's for the best that he
broke the line when I tried to get him out of the water and onto dry land. Eating such a magnificent
fish would have been a real shame. But what are his chances of survival with my lure in his mouth???? I hooked him on a Mepps Aglia 0, the line broke very close to his mouth and I never saw the lure so I think he swallowed it pretty deep.
I'd feel a lot better if I knew I didn't do any permanent damage to him....
