View Full Version : Confused about Storm Deep Jr. Thundersticks
I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on this issue. I was at Gander Mountain today, looking at Storm Deep Jr. Thundersticks and noticed they had two different types of packaging. One was an all plastic box, the other was similar to the way Rapala packages their lures. Cardboard box and a plastic cover. After looking at both packages, I noticed the "all plastic" versions were made in China, while the cardboard boxed versions were made in Estonia. Taking an even closer look, I noticed the Chinese versions were significantly narrower than than the Estonian(sp?) versions, body-wise. I took both packages over to where they had Dave's KaBoom Shiners, and compared all 3. The Estonian versions seemed to very close to the KaBoom's, in size and width. So...the $1 million dollar question. Any difference between them, other than where they're made? I await your words of wisdom.

Yes, all three are different. The one version (not sure if it is the Estonian or Chinese, I'm guessing the Estonian) is the old model Storm which Normak brought back under fisherman pressure. They are out in limited colors and styles.
The other version is a Normark (Rapala) version of the Storm lure, much closer to a Husky Jerk lure. The Normark version hasn't seen very much success.
The Dave's Kaboom was designed by the son of the father who designed the original Storm lure.

Go with the Kaboom's. Since Rapala bought (and Ruined) Storms lures, you are now not sure what you are buying. They bought the rights to make them but they screwed them up when they tried to change them over to a glued on diving bill. Fishermen revolted and stopped buying them so they came back out with the "old" style lures. Now, nobody is sure what they're paying their hard earned dollars for. Dave Storm saw the demand for that style of lure was not being met and filled it with his new Nitro Shiner. It comes in most of the popular old Storm colors and several new versions. He had to make them slightly different to avoid patent infringements but they are almost identical to the old Deep Jr.'s and perform the same as his Dad's lures did, Flawlessly. (Not sponsored by any tackle company, just my opinions)

The lures in the card board boxs ,belong in the trash can. the lures that say stOrm Deep "Jr" thunderStick. original series.( made in china)are the better of the 2. And belive me that is an under statement.
