I am looking for some rod and reel combos for walleye. what i have right now i am told the rods are to heavy. thanks for any info.
That depends alot on what kind of trolling you are doing. If you are trolling leadcore, you can go with either a 7 to 9 foot lite action rod. I personally like the penn reels with the leadcore. If I was trolling with boards, I would agian go with a 7 to 9 foot lite action rod with a diawa line counter reel. Now if I was trolling useing dypsi divers I like using a more stiff rod in the 8 to 8 1/2 foot, with the diawa linecounter reel. I like the stiffer rod so when a fish gets on the dypsi will trip easier. Plus I can detech a fish on a stiffer rod easier than on a lite action rod, where you might have a problem of triping the dypsi....

I love flatline trolling with Daiwa Sealine 17 or 27 linecounters on 7 foot medium-light graphite rods. For planer boards I bump up to 7 foot or 7'6" medium-heavy graphite rods, plus I have an e-glass rod I sometimes use on boards. I don't fish leadcore very often but I use either my flatline rods or boards rods for it. Lots of guys use them but I personally am not a fan of long, mushy rods. Hope this helps, good luck.

You can troll with pretty well anything. Why not an inexpensive baitcasting combo. Get one that has a medium-heavy fast action rod. Put some 20 or 30 lb super line on the reel.
I think about twice a year, Bass Pro has their Walleye Signature Series coupled with the Diawa Sealine Series on sale. You can usually save about $25 to $50 on the combo. I've got six of these set-ups, have had them for about 3 years now, and they're great. Just the right amount of quality and price to work for me.
