I have tried to answer my own question all morning with no prevail. What I am hunting is a fishfinder. Just a plain ol' fishfinder. I like the idea of having seperate units to do seprate things. OLD SCHOOL. I only fish the western an central basins of LAKE ERIE. What I am after is a finder that will show me Perch. I figure a unit that will show perch will enhance my walleye fishing with no problem. Must be a color unit w/ the biggest screen available for a, Just a plain ol' fishfinder. I really want to hear from people that have hands on experence with the unit they are suggesting. I been running an old SI-TEX that has been referb. once a few years back. Age is once again catching up with it. Time for an upgrade.
Thank's, Ron

For a stand alone fishfinder that'll pick perch off the bottom...

Raymarine DS600X... There are several other options out there but this is a good one. Is cost a factor?

i think wade would agree with me on this too, for a stand alone fishfinder, the lowrance 102c unit is nice, great color screen, very easy to use, and priced just right. i use it around conneaut and ashtabula for perch, and i see them in 40-60 ft down with no problem, works great trolling for the eyes too.

I also will agree with the X102c. I bought one from Wade at Jollyann Marine sales last fall, and I am really impressed with it. Great unit for a reasonable price. Get it from Wade, he is a Walleye Central supporter in the directory.

Right now, there is a Zercom flasher on the swap board that would probably be more sensitive than a graph in the same price range.

Thanks for the X102 info, I'm in the process of buying one right now. I looked at the 135/125/96 in the store and I don't like the was the contrast looks, I can't seem to get a clear pic. For the money though, that new X96 is a good 200 dollar unit. I like the 102, and I fish for perch a lot, thanks for the info.
