I swap out almost all my hooks now. I experimented with all kinds of different combos along Edison this fall. Red front, red back, both red, no red, you name it. All on those Pearl Shad Raps and there was no difference. Best hook-up % was definitely on the regular Triple Grips(me and the fish :o). Andy's has the best price on the Triple Grips. Cabela's for the red Matzuo sickle trebles, my second favorite.

You'd never believe how many pro customers I have that tell me to just keep or throw the factory hooks away. I'd say more than 1/2 upgrade everything. Couldn't tell you what they're upgrading to, but there seems to be more confidence in non-factory hooks.

I have a trolling buddy of mine that hate's treble hooks. When he buys handful of new Stingers, they will have a single hook on them before they ever see the water. Complain's they take to long getting out of the net. P.S. If your thinking of getting serious about doing some major hook changing, buy a pair of splitring pliers. It will be the best 10 or 12 bucks you'll spend. Just bought a pair on e-bay, myself. A lot of guy's are going on about red hooks, figured I try some myself.

I switch a lot of my hooks depending on time. If I buy a new lure on the way to the lake it will get fished that first time with the factory hooks. I like the Matzuo and just ordered triple grips from Jan's Netcraft. Mostly I change color of hooks. I have also changed size. But I will use a thinner wire hook so that the action stays about the same. I use Black over all when I switch and sometimes red on the belly. Spoons will get a black or red treble hook, and one size bigger. The black or red on a spoon makes a big difference in clear water on the spoons. I really liked the VMC before Rapala bought them out. Also ordered some of them to try again.

It really depends on the quality of the hooks that come from the factory. Some are quality some are not.
