This is a question for you folks who troll worm harnesses behind planer boards with snap weights. Is there a formula to determine where to place the snap weight in relation to the harness to get to a particular depth or is it a trial and error thing? Thanks for all responses

The best thing to do is to invest in a copy of Precision Trolling. Everything you need to know is in there. There is an in depth section dedicated to your question. I do not think that you will find many trollers on this board who do not have a copy of this. It is referred to as the trolling "bible".

Thanks Pond Scum, I do have the 2004 edition and I didn't think about looking there for the info I need. Thanks again.

To leave home without the bible is just about as bad as leaving without the boat.

I usually make my own crawler harnesses, approx 5ft long. ending with
a barrel swivel, this is where I use an in-line weight. Run this behind the planer board that has a tattle tail flag.
