I bought a used Pinpoint 3950 and can't get it to work. It beeps when I turn it on and a bunch of numbers flash through the display, but none of the other buttons seems to have any effect. Even in "manual" the motor won't come on.

This motor is reputed to be fresh back from a factory rebuild, but trying to reach Pinpoint seems a very lost cause. I'm 108 miles from the nearest Motorguide repair shop. So, any advice--or better yet a shot at an owner's manual or service manual--would be much appreciated. I'm not real sure what the display is supposed to act like.

This is just a guess but sounds like mine when out of water. It's a safety feature. Dan

Yeah, I agree, the out of the water protection is not allowing it to run. Unless you do have it in water, then I dont have a clue.

You can bypass the safety feature, but I dont remember how. Anyone have their manual handy? It was something about holding TEMP down, while you turn it on... Dont remember exactly. I do remember though, even after you bypass the feature, the motor will still only run at very low speed.

Thanks,

Well. That was easy. I put it in a tub of water and it seems to work just fine. Thanks to both of you.

Want to buy a pinpoint this year and have been looking at new but might be interested in good used or rebuilt. Did you buy privately or is there an outlet for rebuilt pinpoints?

I've looking to half looking for a year without much luck. I found this one on Ebay.
