Do you have a problem with the line slipping through the rear clip without looping the line through the clip. I started using the Tattle Tale Flags last year. When I started I had new 10lb Trilene XT on my reels and the rear clips (red) worked fine for about a month without a loop. The line then started slipping, taking the slack out, so the flags would not work. The pads did not appear to be worn and I tried new clips and the line still slipped. I am thinking the XT gets slippery from use, causing it to slip.

I use the same line most of the time. The only time I had a problem of line slipping, was when I had a cut in the pad, check them over that may be your problem.

The front clip is where your line is probably slipping, instead of the back. There's alot more g-force going on from the rod to the board, than the back clip to the lure. I have updated all my clips to the red ones, or metal spring loads on the front clip. Make sure you set the board in the water holding the slack line between the two clips, then set the clicker and let it out. You will will usually have the problem of losing the slack between the clips, when you are setting the board, ie.. holding the rod with the board bouncing up and down before it hits the water. I use 10lb XT and have had no problems with slipping once I changed the way I let out the board.

I use the OR18 clips up front and did not think they would slip. I will check it out this spring. Thanks

JMW,
Here is one more thing you can try...
There is a little spring between the two "arms" of the release that can be pushed forward or backward to add or lessen the tension to the release. If that spring moved since you started using them, that may be the reason the line is slipping now. Try moving the spring to add more tension, and see if that helps hold your line in place.
Another poster hit on my other thought, which was that the line had cut the pad. That will happen if the line hits the same spot each time you clip it on. Those cuts are kind of hard to see.

I run my line thru the front clip twice.

Wolverine is correct. Your slipping is coming on the front clip. I bought new clips for the front (red) and switched the used ones to the back. No problems now. Even 10 lb mono will wear a groove in the pads eventually, depending on how much you use them. When these front ones wear out, I will try slicing the pad off and just turning it 90 degrees.

Do what Juls said to do with the springs and then lightly scuff the pads with med. or coarse sandpaper. We do this with the downrigger releases also and it works great....Paul
