Carp Advocate Accused of Illegal Stocking of Carp

David Moore President of the American Carp Society and Past President of the Carp Anglers Group accused of 25 counts of stocking Carp in Public Lakes in Washington County court in Bartlesville Oklahoma.

According to Washington County Oklahoma Court Clerk Records Mr. Moore is accused of multiple counts of stocking a City Lake with Israeli or Mirror Carp. Carp are very prolific and destructive and have earned their status as one of the most destructive, invasive, fish in the world as documented by this and many other studies http://horticulture.coafes.umn.edu/vd/h5015/00papers/baldry.htm . Many state and federal regulations limit or ban carp’s stocking and possession.

Mr. Moore, according to court documents, detailed his stocking on the forum section of the Website of the Carp Anglers Group http://www.carpanglersgroup.com . That Section of the website has now been closed to the public. The discussion detailed his intentions, with pictures and various discussions of other public lakes to stock to improve carp fisheries. List Members also discussed their stocking plans.

Unfortunately now the Lake will have to be managed by fisheries personnel to control its exploding carp population. The Carp management will be an expensive and ongoing concern for the Town of Bartlesville.

If guilty as charged Mr. Moore’s act of eco terrorism is even more concerning as he is very well informed on the issue and it shows contempt for the public fishery and law enforcement. Mr. Moore financially profits from guided Carp fishing trips via his ACS guide service it is apparent he has decided to use the public waterways as his personal carp factory.

Wow.

I have fished with the guy and thought that his carp opinions were a bit extreme, but I had no idea he would take things that far.

There are a couple of bodies of water in the US that attract carp anglers from Europe. I would imagine that his goal was to create more.

Sure hope the judge overseeing this case is an avid outdoorsman & sportsman who will throw the book at this guy and make an example of him for his actions. Besides jail time and a very big fine, it'd be nice if this clown had to pay all the expenses for having to control the species in this lake and others as well. Granted, carp can be fun to catch, but it'd been a lot easier on the guy to have just moved to an area that already has an abundant supply of these carp instead of trying to get an area started in his back yard at the expense of the public there.

It has nothing to do with being able to afford a boat. It is alot easier to fish carp from shore than in a boat.

I've been chasing carp for 4+ years and for the most part, enjoy it as much or more than any fishing I do from a boat. If it wasn't for the fact that I still enjoy muskie fishing (although I never went last year) and chasing cats and smallies on the river, I would get rid of my boat.

We have found, that while sitting on shore, we get almost no respect from people in boats. One guy, in his brand new ranger, told us, "go get a boat you stupid trailer trash."

I didn't say anything after his motor picked up the line from one of my rigs. It took up about 100 yards or superline and almost all the backing before I cut the line. Should have shredded his seals. Maybe next time he will think a before crowding shore anglers.

The judge should make the guy pay the Nebraska DNR to reclaim the lake by killing all the fish and for restocking it.
