Visited the Gamma Line guys at the NW Sportshow this week. Interesting demonstration regarding their lines. Basically took a standard overhand knot and did a break test. For a given line, the Gamma was hands down needed signifiantly more force to make the line break at the knot. Now, I know that the overhand knot is the worst knot for breakage. I suspect that tinsle strength played a role in this demo. Line diameters were comparable. I usually am not impressed however given a specific test condition this line performed quite well. It was also vdid not seem to be very stiff. They claim to irradiate the mono.

Any one know the secret to this test performing well for certain types of lines?

David;

I tried the tensile test with Gamma and the new DuraTuff stuff from Stren at the show and the Stren beat the Gamma hands down on tensile strength test. Neither line broke at the palamar knot that I tied. And the Stren product is made in the USA while the Gamma is made in Tiwan.

Good luck

The test they are doing is very easy to make any line you want look great. All you need to do is snug up the knot in the line that you want to look good nice and slow. The line you want to look bad you don't snug it down as tight, then when you pull the lines tight rather quickly, like in there tests, the "bad" line will snap tight and cut through itself. You can break 80lb. mono this way very easily!

Another way that knots tests can be decifing is that some of the lines have all there stretch in the beginning of the pull, these lines appear very strong since you have to pull a lot before the line breaks. The problem is that the more of the stretch that is in the begining of the pull the less sensative the line will be. The line with more of the stretch in the back end of the pull will be more sensative and appear to break easier because the line breaks before it stretches a long way.
