Just got a certified letter that the company that I have my boat insurance with is getting out of my state. Anyone out there have any suggestions on a good company. Thanks

I was going to get insurance through NPAA but I found out my current insuror was actually still a better rate.

Lloyds of London.

Do you fish tournaments? many companies do not cover you when fishing a tournament. Check and be sure before you are sorry!

Try Boat US. They have some decent insurance plans.

I have found good rates and good coverage from a company called Old United Casualty Company. They are located in Kansas but I haven't had any problems working with them over the phone and fax. I had to switch to them from State farm because I was not covered by state farm while fishing tournaments or guiding. In order to get Insurance through the NPAA you have to be a member which I think was quite expensive each year. Give Jody (female) a call at 1-800-866-6090 ext.285 I'm in the process of insuring my new boat with her and she has been great to work with. She can probably get you a close quote the same day you call.

Recently got the '02 West Marine master catalog and they have West Marine Insurance Services which, if you call 1-800-937-8895, they will give you quotes from up to 5 leading marine insurance companies. Haven't checked it out yet.

I second that. I have BoatUS and it is a pretty good deal, but you have to be a member!

Yes, its an additional $15 a year I think to become a member.

Boat/US is a good organization to belong to, anyway. They do a lot to promote causes that interest us.

I used Boat U.S. for five or six years, then I got a quote from West Marine's insurance group. West gave me much more coverage (higher limits and fewer and lessor restrictions on covered areas of operation) and at the same time my rate went down by roughly a third. I'm on my third year with West now.

Yes I fish the PWT. I had to switch to Lloyds because they were the only company that my broker dealt with that would cover me specifically for out of country tournaments.

The least expensive will likely be Allstate for the boat, Farmer's for the tow vehicle. But, check for out-of-country exclusions, tournament exclusions, etc.
Shop 'til you drop. You may even find it advantageous to insure everything with a single carrier under a package deal. check with your house insurer.

I have Allstate as well. I got a pretty good rate since my house and truck is insured through them. It is a Boat Owners insurance Policy, not part of Home Owners.

Boat U.S. The best I've ever dealt with.

I have had all my insurance, cars, house, boat, through Farmers for years and been very happy until last summer. After a boating mishap, Farmer's marine insurance was a disaster. Apparently, they have a separate company for that that operates out of Maryland and it is absolutely horrible. They were incompetent and dishonest. My own Farmers agent was totally frustrated by them. This went far beyond me. There were boating claims all over the state that had similar problems. Anyway, even if you have and like Farmers (I still do for everything else) DON'T go to them for boat insurance. I'm going to look into the Boat US that has been mentioned.
