I'm starting to look for some new trolling set ups. Currently I have Diawa Accudepths, a couple Cabelas Depthmasters, two Shaeksphere Tidewaters and an Okuma Magda. <--- All of which are pretty much crap.
Obviously buying a few Sealines should be my next step. However, I noticed that the Okuma Convectors seem to be solid.
I am mainly concerned with the drag system. I want a few reels that can handle planer board better.
Any thoughts?

I've got 3 convectors and love them. I like the 15 size, its perfect for bouncers, boards, cranks, and even dipsy trolling for walleye. Smooth, good drag, and a great handle.
Have had guys use them that have diawa 27's, and they were impressed.
Had a few of the okuma magdas and cant recomend them though.

The older Convectors (blue ones) had mixed reviews. I had some and didn't like them. The new ones (black) are MUCH better.

Honestly I have never used the Dawia's. I do however have a fair amount of experience with the Okuma's. As was stated, the Magda's are not hte best reel but are a decent entry level reel. The Blue Convectors were considerable better than the Magda's, the Black Convectors (introduced last year) are sweet. The drag's stand up, and the one problem that I had with the blue Convectors has been resolved. That was the spool had some play in it, and the line would occasionally get stuck underneath the spool. The new offset gearbox and handle are great. I have 2 Convector 15's and a dozen Convector 20's. While the 20's are bigger, I still like hte better over the 15's. They jst feel better. The only real difference is the thumb rest bar.

I have 8 of the blue convecters, 4 size 20 and 4 size 30. The 20 have been a POS since I got them had all the drags redone and gone over and 3 were much better but the one went back again for repairs and 2 had to go back to okuma within the 1st monthe of use. 30s have been Flawless to date.
I have 2 of the newer black ones also. These were early run, some of the first out. The drags were absolute junk from the factory. These are the size 45? I use them for copper line for salmon fishing. First fish and the board went under and rod loaded up and befor I could get it out of the holder it broke off an echip flasher, fly, floro leader and all the copper and terminal tackle. I called okuma and found out that some of the early reels were sent out without all the drag washers installed. They sent me a package with a hand drawn diagram and instructions along with the rest of the reel parts they left out at the factory.
When these reels are working, I like them better than the 4 sealines I have, only problem is I have yet to have all of them working at the same time. I do not fish alot, 3 times a month, but my diawas have never been worked on at all and are older than all my convecters. I keep hearing the new reels from okuma are alot better than the old ones but every time the new ones I get end up needing repair.
Okuma usually has great customer service but I figure they better. I decided to never buy another after the diagram and fix it yourself parts on 2 brand new reels.
