Hi
Does anyone have any expeirence with the new electric trolling motors that mount on your gas engine? I need a new trolling motor but I am leery about buying one because I don't know anyone who has every had one Thanks

I have a Minn Kota motor that mounts on the cavitation plate of the big motor. One of the best investments that I have ever made. I still have my gas kicker too, but it doesn't get used much anymore. I do, though, like having it there for emergency purposes (or if my batteries get low)

I had one and didn't like it much but the application I was using wasn't ideal, to say the very least. I found that when heading into a wind (which is necessary sometimes) the bow seemed to really move in a hurry which caused plenty of steering (which required a free hand). That's what I like about bow mounts - hands free. I would think getting a fish on alone may be a tussle with cav. plate mount, but mine was on an old fiberglass Crestliner runabout. So a different boat may handle much more favorably than that pig.
