I was just looking for some new electronics to go on my boat!I have narrowed it down to X-15,Si-tex cvs-106 or the new Si-tex 106L.The price is not the issue,I want the best!Help please,I need your imput!

I DON'T want this to turn into an ad for your favorite graph,I'm smarter than that!

I'll try NOT to come across as an ad in answering your post.

If price is no object, surely, check into a genetron. although i am not familiar with model #'s or names, i assume the sitex units you refer to are video's. the colored ones. I have used then extensively in past years. they are great units. they, as the video technology allows, WILL pick up fish within the first ten inches of the water column, where in fact, most inland lake and reservoir walleyes live. that said... i have to do WAY to much thinking and analyzing of the various shades of colors to determine what i am seeing. my genetron simply is just that....simple. nothing being used in the freshwater market is comparable. I wouldn't buy a new boat and install anything but a genetron if money is not an issue as you say. good luck!

Steve is correct. Would have one myself, unfortunatly money is the barrier. Guys that have the Vexilar Edge LC 507 seem to really like their units. Have heard no complaints about them.

Thanks for the opinion,I looked at the Genetron an frankly I'm not that impressed. They think way to much of there product. I was running 350a's,I have learned to run them very effectively! The Si-tex cvs-106 is a video & color $650.00 just as good as the genetron! The 106L is a new color liquid crystal, looks very clear but I can't find any info on it.I think the Lowrance is the best liquid crystal out there the unit may be alittle slow but I'm an old backtroller an the scroll speed won't cause me any problems.Still don't know which one but I get it figured out by opener!

If you don't mind the drive to the Milwaukee area you can get a Lawrance LCX-15CT that was a demo for $900.00. Not bad for that particular fishfinder. Of course bing in MN that's quite a drive.

Guess I should say where it's at if anybody wants it. The brookfield Gander Mountain has it. I'm mighty tempted myself but I figure I can get by with my Garmin 160 and Lawrance x65 for a year more. I need to get an outboard and waisting 900.00 on a fishfinder when I need an outboard would be a very dumb thing to do.

Being from Minnesota, if you would like to compare your lms350 or the other units, in person, on the water, please feel free to contact me. I will gladly demonstrate, in any scenario you wish, WHY genetron should think about their product as you point out. As I said, the units you show as choices are great units. You also asked for advice on what was your best choice, with money not an object.
Good luck! Don't catch'em all...

It's not that don't think the Genetron is a very good unit,I just don't think it's worth an extra $1000.00 may 4 years ago but the units of today have come along way since then.Ten years ago I would not have considered a liquid crystal.Paper or that little Interphase 20/20 was the only thing to use. When I got my first 350 I ran it next to my paper and learned to adjust it just right to read ALL MOST as good!I can't pick the fish right on the bottom with an arc,but I can see the change in the bottom to idenify the fish.$1000.00 buy's alot of other goodies I alway seem to need ie. another tourney to fish or some more rods.My biggest problem with the CVS is the size being a CRT they are so big because of the tube.

Not too long ago a post like this would have been filled with pinpoint supporters. Has the pinpoint gone out of style?

If youd like to fish in chamberlain next month my boat will be rigged and i will be happy to take you out so you can see the x15mt and i also am putting on the lpg3000 off the front.I really thought hard about the genetron however,I am in the retail fishing industry and have 2 problems with it:

1.If i they do not have the confidence or capabilties to train people on there units then I have severe doubts on the unit to begin with.(or is the reason have to keep customer service only in their hands, not trying to start a war of words or envoke the rath from anyone that uses gentron)

2.Why would I purchase something that I cant get at or below cost.

60degrees and the boats still in Minnesota and all i can do is play on the computer and tie snells!%$#$*^%$!

In reference to your concerns about training people on genetrons, Dick is VERY open to do so. He has, on many, many occasions, met buyers/users at mutually convenient locations to help install or teach them how to run the units. Unfortunately, sales people in most venues, are relatively short lived at those types of jobs and never have a chance to fully learn what they are attempting to sell. So that has been a tough one for genetron. Open minded retailors, surely are welcome to an unprecedented amount of help, from genetron, if requested.
As for 'dealer' pricing, call Dick at 701-298-0900.

Good luck fishing in the Dakota's!

I still use an Interphase 20/20 on the front of my boat. Though dated, it works great. I have an Interphase Advantage LCD as my main unit. I'm sure there are better sonars out there but I've always had good luck with Interphase and choose to stay with them.

I'll always believe a CRT display is better than an LCD. But they had to pry my paper graph out of my hands too. With the backlighting being used today makes glare no longer an issue. I'f bulk wasn't a big deal, I'd go with a CRT unit.

Good luck with your choice.

ok now you have made me curious (dont take it in a harmfull way please) but your beginning to sound more like a rehersed sales pitch than a loyal customer.in regards to the turnover rate in the industry I think that he migh tbe looking at the wrong retailers then, have him look at Reeds or Scheels to start and thats doesnt. I know first hand that both have long tearm carreer sales people and they both do an extensive ammount of training plus only hire those with the desire for more knowledge and then put them to use.

I JUST RECEIVED AN E_MAIL REGARDING THIS POST AND I THINK A RESPONSE IS IN ORDER.

1. YEARS AGO SCHEELS DID HANDLE GENETRONS. I HAVE THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR SCHEELS STORES BECAUSE I HAVE HAD AN EXCELLENT PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH SOME OF THE ORIGINAL FOUNDERS. STEVE DOES BRING UP A POINT THAT IS VERY VALID ABOUT TRAINING THE HELP AT A LOT OF RETAIL STORES. YEARS AGO I PERSONALLY TRAVELED TO ALL OF THE RETAIL STORES THAT HANDLED GENETRONS. THIS INCLUDED SCHEELS,BURGER BROTHERS,DAKOTA MART, BASS PRO, CABELAS. I PERSONALLY GAVE IN HOUSE DEMOS TO MANY PEOPLE AT THESE STORES. BUT STEVE IS RIGHT. THE HELP THAT YOU TRAIN AT THESE STORES IS VERY TRANSIENT WHEN IT COMES TO STICKING TO THERE JOBS. LETS FACE IT MOST OF THE HELP IS PART TIME OR LOOKING FOR BETTER OPPORTUNITIES. THE GENETRON IS NOT THE RUN OF THE MILL FISHFINDER AND WHEN SOMEONE IS GOING TO PAY UPWARDS OF TWO THOUSAND THEY WANT AND DESERVE ANSWERS. ALSO MANY OF THE STORES DID NOT WANT TO INVENTORY GENETRONS BECAUSE OF THE HIGH COST. SO IN MOST CASES IT WAS MUTUALLY AGREED ON BY GENETRON AND THESE STORES THAT IT WOULD BE IN OUR BEST INTEREST TO SELL FACTORY DIRECT. KNOW ONE KNOWS OUR PRODUCT BETTER THAN US AND ITS APPLICATIONS. I THINK YOU SEE THIS IN THE COMPUTER INDUSTRY AS WELL WITH BRANDS LIKE DELL AND GATEWAY SELLING FACTORY DIRECT. WE HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ABOVE NAMED STORES AND WISH ALL OF THEM WELL. DICK KNUTSON GENETRON

I understand where your coming from. I didn't eat for a month after I bought my first Genetron. And then I realized in a hurry, that because of it, I eat better and am able to afford more tournies and goodies. If I lay out entry fee money, expenses, time away from guiding at home, and lot of blood, sweat and tears, I ain't gonna fish half blind. I can't afford to compete without it. Kinda a catch 22 as they say.
And it's great to discuss these 'important' things in life. lol

I have ran a Genetron along with a 350A for the past 8 years. Last season I ran an X-15 along side it. The X-15 picked up everything the Genetron did and more. I was very impressed. It's going to be kind of scary because I am so used to reading and trusting the Genetron but this year I will not have one in my boat.

Thanks Dick as always you have answered my question. However I still wish something could be done in order to get both you and your units more accessable to the public.I would also love the training from you in person, one of the reasons I like scheels is from the training they give from experts like yourself.

By the way I did recieve the info you had sent me and I considered purchasing one of your units but just couldnt bring myself to write the check.
