I am new to surf fishing. I have surf fished once with below average results.

If anyone can give me some tips on how to be more productive that would be great!

I am going to be fishing Hawaii in a couple of weeks. I will be fishing from a boat a couple of days, but would like to try fishing from the surf on the remaining days.

Take note as to what the locals are doing, they'll probably be the ones catching the fish. I've read that surf fishing in Hawaii is awesome, remember reading something about caching wahoo along some beach that is now a dormant lava flow, there was deep blue water within casting distance of land. I've surf fished from Long Island NY to Key West FL and just about every place was different.

A visit to the local bait shops can provide invaluable tips for ya.

Any recommendations on rods/reels and line? Does fireline work well for this? I could purchase the gear in Hawaii, but it would be significantly more expensive.

Maybe they have a "Wahoo Central" website.:-)
