First tank through the new truck.

(I fill it to the brim every time)
28.435 gallons @ $1.059/gal = $30.11.
Distance traveled on last tank = 257.5 miles
Approx. MPG = 9.05 Eeeewwwww!

All driving was city with about 7 or 8 warmups and a lot of getting used to the quick peddle.

About $.11 per mile to run this beast so far. I hope cruise control on a highway trip will be much better. Really bummed about the smaller tank though. It will make trips to LOW a multi-stop affair. The Burb could make the trip from Eagan to Baudette on 3/4 tank. Gonna miss that. But only that so far. :-)

What did you get for a new truck........you didn't quite specify. Is it a new Burb? Just curious...........plus it takes awhile for the motors to break in.......once it does you should get a little better fuel mileage..........

Yeah Aquaman, what make of truck did you buy? I have had my Silverado now for about nine months and the gas mileage has gotten better! It really burned thru the gas the first 1000 miles. Is that normal?

'Burbs don't have that small a fuel tank, probably the new Chevy trailblazer or its Gmc equivalent. Only major complaint I have heard on them is the small gas tank.

Get some mud flaps on 'em or running boards cause I have seen the rear quarter panel chipped all to heck on the used ones I have been looking at.

Yer asking for a lot of abuse A-man!

It'll get better as you break it in, and the highway miles will be a lot better. When you get the boat hooked up and take a long trip with this truck, you'll know you made the right choice. Hang in there!

Sorry, I assumed that most had seen the post a few weeks back. I should also clarifiy. This is MY first tank through my new (Used) truck. :-D

Abuse I can take when it is all in good fun!

Old rig was a 1994 K1500 Suburban with the 5.7L and 3.73 rear.

And when he gets to the "waters edge" rather than backing the boat in, he should seriously consider launching by driving forward until the boat floats. :)

A Ford, you say...do you like it better than a truck? :)

Real trucks burn fuel....

Can you say DIESEL

Muleskinner
02-21-2002, 01:26 PM
I only get 18 mpg with my ford f350 crew cab! It used to get more until I sucked that dodge through my big diesel tail pipe! Diesel is the only way to the waters edge.

In all fun and games if you can't afford to drive the best you have to buy a ford.

"Approx. MPG = 9.05 Eeeewwwww!"

Bet you just can't wait for spring, when they start cranking those gas prices up. Wonder what the price will be over the Memorial Day weekend and what excuses they'll be offering, this time around.

I guess I shoulda got a Toyota and pulled the pumkins out of all you blowhards. :-D

I think that my MPG will improve dramatically when I take it on an extended trip and am not "warming " the truck in the morning and evening. It is rated for 13/18. I would be very happy with 15MPG. Also, with the sensitivity of this peddle, I have to get used to it. I really had to put some "foot" on the Burb.

For those that think a V10 will get better then this, I show my old Missouri colors and ask you to "Show Me."

I got a new FORD 2002 F150 w/4.6, standard trans.,3.08 rear end. Drove up to LOW with over 1000lb load in the truck, and got 17.3 mpg for the entire 2686 mile trip. Very happy with the truck, and hope it lasts as good as my '87 ford F150, which I'm still driving for a work truck.
I use to swear by GM's, but these two trucks changed my mind.

I towed over 2000 lbs round trip to LOW last year with my '95 Dodge Intrepid. Car was packed with gear too. Averaged 15mpg for the 1300 mile round trip.
Without the boat, I average 24 mpg combined city/hwy on my daily commutes.

Well if it will make you feel better... I just bought a 2500 Dodge with a 360. I get 9.7 out of OD towing and 13mpg if I baby it without towing and that is staying in 2wd! Ain't none of em great but I bought it to tow a boat and camper not a bag of groceries.

AquaMan,
Can't really comment on the mileage but it sure is a nice looking rig. Nice choice. I own a GMC myself, but I really like the looks of that bad boy.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...LOL. ;-)

I will run under the DNR radar for a while. However, that whole deal with the culling issue made me feel a whole lot better that there are others that are also foggy about the DNR rules and regs. Dave is pretty clear and I think I will fish with him for a while. hehehe.

Ok Aqua, not sure how I can show you, but I have that truck with the V10. Mine in town gets 9-10 on avg. I have heard enough to believe that the 10 gets pretty darned close to the same mpg as the 8...thats one of the resons that I ordered it with the 10. They improve quite a bit once you get them out of town. You should be able to see the 15 you were looking for on the highway. I notice that the wind makes a HUGE difference with this xl profile rig.

Think I'll continue to run my '94 F250 Diesel 4X4 a little while longer. It gets 17-18 mpg all the time, mpg only drops off if I go faster than 70. Everybody tends to think diesels are loud. Dodges are terrible and Dodge soundproofs insufficiently. We can talk at a normal level when in my cab. My other vehicle is a '94 GMC Suburban with a 5.7 but only two wheel drive. It does 15 when pulling the boat on the highway and carrying 5-6 people. I'd like to get a Duramax when I find one two years old and no longer a billfold buster. For years, GMC & Chevy were also-rans in the diesel truck realm. The Duramax is changing that picture. I believe the Cummins is a super engine, it's just hung in a Dodge. Dodge quit doing the right things some years back, no more decent 727 Torqueflight transmissions. No more torsion bar suspensions in their cars. Front wheel drive junk you can't work on yourself. In '94 all these guys I used to work with bought Dodges and over the next three years it was interesting to see what fell apart on them...transmissions and rear ends. Engines...OK but mileage pitiful unless it was the Cummins, but then you couldn't talk over the sound of the engine. GMC 6.5 liter diesel--DOG! Duramax is changing the scene. I'll be looking in another year or so. Only 222K on the F250. Just keeps on running. If you stay with only one brand forever, you are not staying abreast of the improvements all companies make. My 1st truck was a Dodge.

I bought a 2001 lariet Supercrew F150 with the 5.4 and it has plenty of power, but pulls to the tanks as well. Actually on the highway I am getting 17mpg and towing the boat I am getting 14. So I cant complain and really like the unit. In town I am getting around 12. I have now 21K miles on it. Like it alot. I have a Chevy K1500 4x4 5.7 before this one. No comparison with the power, the only thing is getting used to the touchy pedal.

If I could get 9.05mpg out of my twin 305's I'd run all over Erie "looking for eye's" with a big smile on my face !!! It's not the cost of the ride but the enjoyment–Have Fun.

I would never pick on anybody's "sled" (motorcycle) nor their "tow vehicle".

However, I ought to say that you are not alone in the "MPG Blues" department. I have a buddy who fell in love with a 2-tone gray Ford F250 back in 1994. He did not pay any attention to the fact that he could have gotten by with the lighter F150. He HAD to have that truck. But, since he could not afford it, he left it on the lot.

SURPRISE! His wife bought it for him anyway!

It had the biggest V-8 Ford was making at the time. Don't know what size that was ... 4xx Cubes (and I don't mean CC's or any of this liter stuff!) He gets 7 mpg in town. About 12 maximum on the highway. And he babies the throttle peddle. He is glad it has the 35(+??) gallon tank. We got between 8 and 9 mpg pulling my Alumacraft Dominator with its 50 hp engine up to Lac Seul.

Don't know what it was rated for, but it was a lot more than 7/12. He had it back into the dealer 3 or 4 times for the MPG issue but gave up after a while.

His truck has 85,000 miles on it last I heard. As a lark, he was figuring out how much money he has spent on gas. He would not buy that truck again.

But, on the bright side, he has not had any problems with it mechanically, either.
