Trying to decide between these two chartplotters? Any comments or suggestions welcome. From the available info, I can't tell much difference in the magazines or online, but there is nowhere locally to see them in person. Thanks for any input!

I'm also really looking at the 182 and would love to hear from someone who has one. Also, has anyone tried the Color screen on any Garmin. Looks good on the Garmin website Map viewer but what's it like in the sun.

Hi guys, I'm familiar with both of the units you are asking about. I have the 162 on my boat now with the fishing hot spots CD for downloading maps (awesome detail by the way) I have seen the new 182 and can say that the bigger screen is really nice and if the color versions are as sunlight readable as the bigger units I saw at the RCL last Fall then the new 182C will be unbeatable. On this unit you can program your own chips with FHS maps or buy a chip which contains an area. check out the web page for the area maps. I have been very happy with the quality of my Garmin. It's also nice that the gps sensor is built into the housing so I can move the unit to my fathers boat where I put a power cord and mount. makes it real easy.

Hope the info helps! Buzz

Thanks for the input. I'll probably go with the 162. I can't convince myself that the slightly larger display on the 182 is worth the extra $.
