What kind and pound test line do you all think is the best all-purpose jigging line?

TWo words FIRE LINE...... I like the 6 or 8 lbs which is as thin as 2 lbs. Much better feel and you can get away with lighter jigs... also like the green as it is easier to see than the smoke color. I tried Spider wire when it came out and ended up re spolling the same day. Finally got talked into trying fireline two years ago and now i have to have it... GOOD LUCK !!!!

4lb. test is the only way to go this time of year, the line i use is 4lb. Trilene Premium Strength in gold. This line will not brake and is more sensitive than most other monos.

Cast my vote for Tectan. I run both the 4.9 and 5.9# test.

8lb Magnathin Clear although I may try Fireline after reading a previous post. I did not like fireline at all when it first came out, however, I may just try it again.

2/6# green Fireline. Sensitive, strong. For me it out fishes mono 3-1.

Otter

Power Pro 10/4 (or 20/6 if you are also likely to hook a fair number of large northerns).

Try 6# Super Mono XLS by spider wire. Grest stuff, super sensitive, small dia. and great knot strength.

For the Guys using Fireline in the lighter tests.. I tried it several times and found it snapped easily especially on hook sets as a result of zero stretch. Do you guys use limper rods with the stuff or add a mono leader? I did also loosen the drag, but only seemed to give the fish too much control. It also seems to tear hooks out in other applications.

I have been using Rapala Finesse 8lb. As thin as most 6 lbs. and really a good cold weather line for early season. Very managable line

I also started using Trilene Sensation and really like it a lot. Less stretch and great feel and low diameter. Its a new replacement for Sensithin and the older trimax.

4 lb Sensi-Thin. Really like that stuff. Anything over 4 lb feels like cable to me. I found the superbraids make snag breaks off problematic and that the fish 'feels you' when you feel it. I guess it all depends on conditions, depth, style and personal preferences. Hard to say one line is best for everyone in all conditions.

I used to use spiderwire on one rod and always seemed to get more bites on the other rod with mono on it so I switched to 4 or 6 pound XT. I am thinking about trying fireline this spring. Does the smoke or green color seem to dissapear better once under the water?

I've heard lots of good things about Power Pro; I just got a spool and will try it.

The line I really like is Silver Thread Excaliber. Its a copolymer mono. I caught a 45 inch sturgeon on 10lb test when I was trolling for walleye. The line is very abrasion resistant.

I was at a seminar just last week and Gary Parsons was the speaker. His topic was jig-fishing. The line he recommended was fireline.
