Jerkbt: I'm thinking about going up to Black river the last couple weekends of the season and trying it. Jig the river and troll the mouth. We'll talk it over this weekend, just bring your good luck with ya.Hope we get the walleye's as well as you did on the trout. Bulletny

I fish in Oswego and it is a night fishery. Boat control is the name of the game. try big stickbaits. I have also fished the black river and chaumont bay area at night and did well. Most guys fish it during the day with spinners so at night the bays were all to myself. Hope this helps. JJ

Hey Jersey John, I have been fishing the Black River and its bay and the surrounding bays for the last 4 years, going up for the Memorial Day weekend. The last 2 years I have been night trolling without luck along the shoreline and have never caught a fish. Long line trolling rapalas, thundersticks and reefrunners have produced nothing for me in the dark, only at dusk and dawn, mostly at dawn and the first hour thereafter. I have caught walleye during the day in Chaumont Bay and Black River Bay, both on stickbaits, but mostly on bottom bouncers and harnesses, with everyone caught on Cabelas' Triple Take spinner rigs, perch or firetiger color. Last year I trolled the spinners in 4 feet in Black River Bay and loaded up with walleye while everyone was in or about the channel, or by the buoys , and I saw very few caught. As a matter of fact, the Dept of Conservation men were out and could not get to me in that shallow water with their Grady White, and had me stop fishing and come out to the deeper water to check my boat and credentials! Maybe you might be able to give me some tips on the right way to night troll in that area. You can e-mail me at shadownose@rcn.com. By the way, I am a Jersey boy too, and still commute to there every day.

I don't have a lot of experience on fishing that area for walleye, but plan to start hitting it pretty hard this year! We've hit the shoals off Mud Bay/Cape Vincent a few times and done OK..not big numbers, but Big fish. I hope the rest of you will be posting on the Reports section once it starts. I'll be posting my results after every trip! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

As in a previous post on this subject, Todd Frank lives and guides up this portion of NY and Ontario, not only for walleye, but for salmon and steelhead, and thru the Thousand Islands for every thing under the sun(water). He guided for me at the Bay of Quinte,Ontario and it was a trip I will never forget. What he taught me in 8 hours could never be learned in 8 months!!! I prefished with him again in the PWT Dunkirk tourney and was amazed how much I did not know about walleye fishing, never mind about fishing in general. If anyone wants to hire an awesome guide for the Eastern area of Lake Ontario, or for the Salmon River, he is the man. He resides in Pulaski, NY, and I lucked out getting his name from a bait shop on the Black River.
