I need advice on how "wire worms " are fished mostly through the ice, but how?, do you put a very small split shot above it or?? What Im doing is fishing white fish (open water right now) and the "usuall" methods are not working as well this year?? I know some use a wire worm (this is just a sml.hook w/some colored wire wrapped tightly around it) when ice fishing for pearch or white's any tips. :)

Actually, when fishing white fish - I use a similar type bait.

I use a farily large spoon of some sort. Perhaps a dare devil, a johnson spoon, or other fairly large flashy spoon. I remove all of the hooks and then put on a dropper line of about 3-4 inches long.
I used 10 lb test for this dropper line, because as I cast or jig, I don't want the final hook or jig to flip back up over the spoon.

Typically, I will tie on a 1/16th oz ping jig for white fish. Sometimes I will use a plain hook with similar success.

Essentially, the white fish is attracted to the spoon, and then hits the baited hook or jig dangling below the spoon.

With the heavy spoon, the rig quickly gets to the desired depth.

Take care
