18 lb leadcore is pretty much the standard line.

For reels, many will work, my preference is Diawa 47 or 57 size linecounters. In all honesty, I had the opportunity to use a 57 size Accudepth reel last summer while fishing with one of their sponsored pro's. They've made some significant improvements to the Accudepth model, and I thought the 'new' 57 size Accudepth worked better than my 'older' Sealine 47 model.

I have not seen the new Accudepths in any store yet. They have infinite anti reverse, and bearings in an area or two where there were previously bushings.

The new accudepth has two models the lc has bushing the lci has bearings and sprag or infinite reverse. Also if you want 10 colors use nothing less than a 47

I use 18lb magibraid (bass proshops) with the daiwa accudepth 47's. You can 10 colors on the 47's. I use the Walleye angler series rods (bass pro shops's) 8 1/2ft trolling rods. Rumor has, that they may be coming out with a 10 -10 1/2 ft rod for lead core.

Been using a good old Penn for many years on leadcore. No problems. Never saw the reason to use a line counter since lead is marked every 30 feet.

leadcore reel:

FYI

Wow! Did get the special Christmas issue of Bass pro shops catalog today with a nice little sale price on these reels. Full price is $59.99 so there is a chance to save a few bucks!! On sale for $40. for either the 2000 or 4000 model.

These are the same time tested units used by Kavazez and Parsons on the walleye tour.

use the 4000 series for leadcore. I have Daiwa linecounter 47 series with Bass Pros Walleye angler series 8'6" trolling rod. Works great. Full spool a little tight on the 47 series, ok on the Bass Pro shop's linecounter 4000 series and Daiwa 57 I'm sure.

I like to use the Penn 320GTI reel. It has a fast retrieve, a good drag (which I always leave quite loose), and a lot of line capacity (I use 27# Gudebrode SP? from Fleet Farm), I also use 14# Fireline for a backer and the leader plus all 10 colors. Almost any soft downrigger rod (with the trigger grip) will do, I have 2- 8' glass St. Croix trolling rods (retractable) and a 8'6" Walleye Angler Deadstick (retractable) with no complaints on either one. (I like the longer one a little more but only because its longer). You need a soft rod because there is no strech with this set up. This has worked very well for me. Hope this helps, Swede

I started using the Bass Pro line counters because I got a great deal on two of them from a friend.... Continue to use trhem for segmented leadcore 3 colors and for full ten colors.... Plenty of capacity.... On the Daiwas, you can get five colors on a 17 series and 7 colors on a 27 series....
