View Full Version : new rapalla's
i found these at dick's a couple of days ago. they aren't on any web sites that i can find. i still want the clown pattern back, but bleeding pearl and bleeding hot olive should catch fish too. i predict the detroit river handliners will do real well with these in the spring.

Been out at a few places since fall. Not on the Rapala site yet.
Ohhhhhh, if I were fishing any of the Detroit River tourneys this spring, I'd definitely throw a few of the Bleeding Pearl's in my box! :hail:

i'm in michigan, no way to be a walk in customer at Scheels. where do see a link on their site to buy rapala's? i would like to have another back up source. i did find some at:
http://www.franksgreatoutdoors.com/items.asp?id=1142&manufacturerid=59&categoryid=1&sid=114219
i'm more inclined to see the bleeding hot olive be the more succesful pattern. a very similar custom painted rap was a big producer on the river last spring. :secret:
thanks

are those red hooks??
Jake,
They do not have them on the web. I saw them in the store. You can call the store and see what models they have the bleeding bait series in. Their web page has the contact #'s.
You could also call 701.298.2918 and ask for Joe Finneman who is in the fishing dept.

Yep, red hooks and red lip.

Just my thinking and feel free to correct me.
Seems I read that Red is not visable in deeper water. Not sure of how deep but lets say 15' and below. If so then I would not waste $$$ on deep diving cranks just to get red. I also doubt the red is visable in dingy water either.
Just a guess.

the studies are about what colors are visible in the light spectrum we see. who knows what the fish perceive. i'm not buying them for the red (which does seem to be more successful to many anglers) anyway, but for the body patterns, which are only available in the bleeding bait series. The pearl color has been very good in other body styles as a long line bait in the fall when the shad come back into the river and the hot olive is very similar to a custom pattern that had good results last spring. the old holographic green shiner that worked well for me and was discontinued could easily be replaced by the bleeding olive flash.

Cabelas in Dundee has them, although the floaters were pretty picked over. Still some F11's left, but the F9 and F7 racks were empty.

If it is true, they're probably a plus. How many baitfish do you see swimming around with a bill and hooks? ;-)

A second for Joe Finneman at the Scheels in Fargo ND. He'll cover all of your need and questions.
I have had great luck with the bleeding bait colors on Devils lake pitching the deep divers in 10 FOW or less. Maybe the red makes a difference in the shallower water, dont know, just know they work.

I agree. thats the point behind the red cajun line. Its not red so they can see it, it red so they cant (thats the thought anyway)

I just use a sharpie to color the bill red if I want that, though some of the new colours do look good. I coloured a few bills on some husky jerks to see if it made a difference a few years ago, and they actually seemed to work less well for me. Perhaps I didn't give them a fair shot, or just the walleyes in that lake didn't like it. Obviously it seems to work great in some places.
Didn't In-Fisherman just publish in the last year or so that walleyes see red much deeper than we can? I'd have to dig it up.
