2 stroke runs rich when trolling. Any way to increase RPM'S without increasing speed.

I run a Lund Rebel 16 ft. with a fifty horse Evinrude.Last year I made up a couple of trolling buckets using 3.5 gallon buckets.Speeds are as follows,no bucket 1.7 mph,one bucket 1.2mph,both buckets .7mph. If I only use one bucket I have no problem with boat control and the buckets also work well for other purposes.

How do you deploy the bucket? From the back of the boat or sides?

Trolling Bags from Amish Outfitters are your answer.
A pair of 15 inch or 18 inch bags would do a great job for you.

Don't ever deploy buckets over the side; you will have a messed up paint job on the side of your boat. Run them off the eyes of the transom on short leads that will not get into your motor should you stop, back up or whatever.

Ihad good luck with a 50 hp 2 stroke merc and a 16' lund with a trolling plate. Others on the board don't seem to like them, but I had great success slowing down.

Out in oregon land where the walleyes grow bigger and the native americans are netting and selling the big walleyes out of the columbia...sad ... very sad

I second a GOOD trolling plate. Ran one for almost 15 years. Price of gas and the quiteness of a 4 stroke kicker finally made me switch. Never experienced any of the problems I have read here in the past.

If you go with bags the Amish ones are tough to beat. They are made for trolling (heavy duty). I did tear one up but a 370-hp engine and a big prop will do that to any of them LOL

Roy,Yes I do deploy from the bow.My Lund is not painted from the splash rails on down.I use enough rope to get the buckets in the water and that's it.It works great for me.

If your running rich and loading up, try using AMS oil.
You should be able to troll all day long at the slowest speed your motor will go with no problems.
How slow do you want to go?
Forwards or backtrolling?
