just bought a aqua view scout II, I was watching some of the online info and it had a video of the camera hooked to the downrigger shouting backwards watching the lure. Has anybody done this and how are you hooking the camera to the ball? looks cool I would like to try it next summer.......

There's a special clip available from Aqua View that you put on the downrigger cable; it mounts in place of the trolling fin on the camera. It works OK but there's a lot of drag on the camera cable if you troll fast or deep. I used it to watch a kwikfish swimming while trolling for salmon in the Columbia River, but didn't manage to capture a salmon hitting the lure. Cool to watch anyway.

I have rigged my atlantis u.w.camera to run backwards off the downrigger ball..It worked BUT there is so much drag that the camera is all over #### (swinging) and it seemed nearly impossible to watch the monitor/screen in the boat without getting queezy/seasick!.There is just to much going on to focus on it~especcially for any length of time..The boat moving/the camera moving and in oft times different directions...Arrrgh......
But its a neat idea IF you can get it to run right!.If the camera's were wireless and the shape of a tiny torpedo it might work better??.lol..Who knows amybe someday!!..I use my Atlantis u.water camera mainly for marking structure in open water and for ice season..The trolling thing was just to much work for me...Len...

I've tried it using an aqua view with the downrigger clip, but as the others have stated it's just too much drag. It's hard to watch the monitor and drive the boat. Even in clear water the lure is far enough behind the rigger ball it's really hard to see the fish hit the lure thats moving around. I also noted less bites/ hits on the rigger poles with the camera. In theory it sounds good, but in reality it just doesn't work that well.
