good morning.........looking to replace a few reels, any comments about this model would be appreciated.....thanks, rap
You will be happier if you can afford to move up to the Symetry ($80 ea). The Sahara is an okay reel but they Symetry should lat a life time of fishing. For some of us that is 5-6 years and others it is actually a lifetime.

I have 8 sahara's, they get used hard all season, IMHO, a very good value for the price. I do not think you will be disappointed
any questions let me know.
good luck

A number of years ago I bought a Sedona, a Sahara and a Symetre. The Sahara lasted just a couple of years. The Sedona is still running although has never really seen a lot of use, and still doesn't. The Symetre is still going strong and is still used.
At the time of purchase, I couldn't really see that the Symetre was $40 better than the Sedona.
I take my reels apart each season to clean and lube them. It became obvious from the first time that I cracked them that the Symetre was a much better designed reel and had some higher quality components inside.
Today, I don't buy a reel under the Symetre quality level. In the long run, I think the added cost is worth it.

I've got Sahara's, Symmetre's and Stradics. IMHO the Stradic is far better than either, and the Symmetre is far better than the Sahara. I started with the Sahara's and have been disappointed with them after a couple of years use. To me the Symmetre is plenty of reel, and as I add or replace reels, it will likely be more Symmetres--a good reel at a fair price--but just my opinion

After years of experimenting with the "deal of the year", getting about two year's of aggravation out of them and then pitching them, I settled on Shimano. My personal opinion is you can get a number of years from the Sahara, but the Symetre is probably worth the extra bucks if you are a regular on the water. I've got Symetre's that look as good now as the day I bought them, and although I have a Stradic that is 10 years old this year and still going fine, I can't see the need to spend the additional money, especially for fresh water. Hats off to Shimano for making such great reels.
