If you could have only one brand/type of jigging spoon in your walleye arsenal... what would it be?

3/4 oz. Hopkins - hammered silver.

Don't leave home without it.

Have a good one.

Rattle Snakies are a swedish pimple type store with rattles in them.

Been doing well with them on the Mississippi River.

Usually reach for a Hopkins first. Depending on the lake, hammered siver or gold.
Only reason being it's a "middle of the road" action. I believe they're stainless steel(abit lighter than lead), got a good tail kick out on the drop. But all the others mentioned have their day. Haven't tried the fle-fly, though. Might have to give 'em a try.

For open water, I would give the nod to Fergie-Spoons from Reel-Baits. They look wierd, have a wire connector with a couple beads that clack. I loved spoon-jigging the reef edges on Lac Seul, did it a lot, and the Fergies would usually out-perform others. Truth is, I've never tried them on the ice, but after this post, I'm going to this winter. If you watch them in shallow water, they are a pretty aggresive presentation. Good Luck

I grab my Hopkins spoons first and most. I've tried other types but have caught more and seen more Walleyes caught on Hopkins spoons than all of the others combined. It's definetely the local favorite but it's the favorite because they work! We mostly use 1/2 or 3/4 oz. hammered silver. Somtimes they prefer the colored tape on them and then Chartreuse is the most popular here in West Michigan.

I second the nomination for Do-Jiggers. Slow drop and lots of thump.

I'll second the Rattle Snakie's but wouldn't leave home without Pimples, Kroks and Lil cleo's

What is that hook on the top of the spoon for? Can I take it off, or is it twisted wire?

You can remove it if you want, but the top hook catches a lot of fish.

The latest saltwater craze which Shimano is capitalizing on as the "butterfly jig" has both free floating hooks at the top,not the bottom. If I was going to remove one of the hooks, it would be the bottom one. ;)

Good luck,
