How to prevent rusty hooks? Drying them off before butting back into tackle box is a bit of a pain. Anyone use wax or some kind of spray.:banghead:

I have a pair of plastic foam "boards" with a heavy clear vinyl cover.... Baits come in, they come off and are hooked to the plastic... they go for a boat ride or at least a trailer ride home and the hooks air dry quickly... I don't seem to have many problems... In February when I do all of my lure maintenace I replace more hooks for being bent, etc. than for rust...

The product is called Hook-ums www.hook-um.com

Flanbeau tackle boxes with Zerust or the chips. Works great! I take the spare Zerust dividers and throw a couple in other non-Flambeau boxes. 2 or 3 dividers will cover a whole box of crankbaits.

I have a small container with drain holes that I put my lures in after I use them. Within a short time they are air dry and I never get any rust in my storage boxes now.

With the money invested in jigs, lures, and hooks, it only makes sens to dry them out before storage. If you don't you will end up with rusty hooks which really need to be tossed.

Rust ruins the hooks and ruins enything that they contact.

Use a storage bucket to throw in all used baits, jigs and lures for the day to dry. At the end of the day, when everything has dried out, store them in your lure box.

If you use plastic tackle boxes, or if you store hooks and or lures wet, make sure that at the end of the day, to open the boxes, and preferably turn a fan into the box to quickly dry everything off.

Nothing much worse for a hook to be stored wet and eventually rust.

Rusting ruins and destroys the point as well as the rest of the hook eventtually.

Take care

I honestly never dry my lures out with the Zerust dividers and they don't rust! If I see a container fogging up, then I'll leave it open for a while, but other than that it's maintenance free. :) Good stuff!

For my hooks...I have started heeping most in a plastic bag in the box with a few on top. This keeps the majority dry and rust free. This is for my normal loose hooks for rigging and replacements.

I do the same for jigs...keeping a few to be used out of the baggie and the rest in protected.

A fly fishing buddy uses a drill to punch a small hole through the plastic for each divided section of his boxes to have better air circulation. None of my plastic trays are waterproof anyways so I think I'll try that. Like the Z-Rust as well. Seems to help.

I have been using The Inhibitor Rust Preventitive for all my outdoor gear for 8 years now. VCI Pro Chips are in all my 40 something crankbait boxes, and have no rust problems. Plano has packs of 5 in some stock boxes, or you can find them at www.theinhibitor.com in 20 packs. Tell them Rusty sent you and ask for the Pro Pack. (buy 3 packs and get 1 pack free).
