I am going on a fly-in trip in June to a lake w/ large lakers. Last year, we fished the same lake and found the lakers in 85-100' of water. Even 2-3 oz jigs on fireline were tough to maintain any sort of vertical presentation in the wind. This year I thought I would bring a level wind spooled w/ 20 lb wire. As I will not likely use this rig too often, can someone tell me if I need roller guides and if not what type of tip/guides will hold up w/ wire?

I have used the wire with a regular tip. It will eat them but it takes a while, unless you are dragging in fish hand over fist. I did replace the tip several times over the couple of years I used the wire to three way. Why not just get a couple of extra tips and the glue to replace it if needed while your up there?

if you see it as a long term presentation then go with the roller pole, but to just see if the presentation works the tip will be fine.
