Upper Peninsula or Lower Peninsula? If you're in the UP, head to Little Bay de Noc. The bite there in August is usually great. I recommend staying at the Sall-Mar Resort.

Mid-Michigan, there's always Saginaw Bay. We had a GREAT August last summer. Bob

If your in the UP head NE from da bridge and fish the St. Mary's River system. Good fishing, variety of water to fish (miles of rivers, lakes, reefs, bays, coves, islands) and same with the techniques to try. Fish the US waters, or if time permits get a Canadian License and do some exploring within the entire system. As a bonus wind/weather is usually a non-factor with the xception of the odd ball lightning storm, in that case seeking shelter can usually be done by powering up the electric on 10.

Well yeah, but thats if you can take being buzzed by 2 thousand jet skis and a million boats . It's the only lake of it's size that get 1-3' waves with zero wind ! I love fishing Lake St. Clair during the week or in the late fall, but in August I just don't bother . Lots of good fishing in the channels and the river . I'd much rather fish there than the lake most times .
We had our boat in a well there just north of Metro Beach for 5 years and finally had enough and moved to Erie . If I hadn't moved too far away from Erie, that's where the boat would be welled now .
All of that being said, the boat traffic does seem a little lighter the higher the gas prices go :P .
As Chamookman mentioned, I too loved fishing Saginaw Bay this year, the sheer numbers of walleye were incredible . Now if we can just get them to grow up a little more life will be great .
The beauty of Michigan is the unlimited fishing possibilities . With Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and Saginaw Bay available, you have some of the best walleye fishing in the world . Pick the one thats closest to you and I'm sure you won't be disappointed !

Hey, Thanks for the replies. Alittle more info from me. I like to catch big eyes don't care how. We catch eyes are here SD in big numbers so would rather do less numbers and bigger fish.

Erie should suit you fine. I was hammering 20+ fish to myself in very little time well into September. Look me up. I'll show you around. :)

If you want big eyes you should travel another 3hours over to Fairport/Geneva/Ashtabula area in Ohio. That is where the big girls are in Aug. Get out in that deep water and pull dispey divers with spoon/spinners, or deep diving cranks and boards. It is a lot of fun! Best place I know of to have a shot at 9lb plus fish in Aug. Unless you keep going east into New York, but I don't want to travel that far myself.
