What knot do you use to tie your line to the spool? I use a running bowline which, theoretically, would slide around the spool in the event a fish peels off all the line, which has never even come close to happening. But, just in case... lol

I'll second the Arbor Knot. Been using it for years. It's fast to tie and holds great. Fortunately I have never been spooled so I haven't tested it on a fish LOL!

Arbor knot or whatever - put a piece of electical tape on the knot and against the spool before winding the line on - it really helps - A LOT!!

I've been spooled twice.................

Both times by another boat.........

Even an arbor knot will not stop a boat that ran over my line. But I didn't want to stop him cause with 300 yards of Fireline wrapped around his prop it would just be a matter of time.

I tie a knot that slids around the spool also. I have to question why even tie a knot at all. If you are going to get spooled it is a boat not a fish.

I've never worried about getting spooled, but it could happen. I just tie my line to a rubberband first and then slip the rubberband on the spool of my spinning reels. On trolling reels I just use a slip knot with one in the running end.

Always use a knot on the spool. Had a friend lose a rod/reel overboard as he was re-rigging. The combo went to the bottom and he still had the end of the line in the boat. He thought he'd just put the line in hand over had and would get his rod back. When the other end of the line came back empty with just the tape he used to attach the spoon, he decided that he would tie and knot from now on.

Ditto with the arbor knot. The reason is, it sinches tight on the spool. That way, when you set the hook, it burys the hook.

I havenīt tied a line to a spool in years. I just put on what I use with a blood knot. I change my line a lot! I replace about a third to a quarter spool at a time.
