I just picked up a 6'6" mf techna av because I got a good deal, but I am also looking at the Tom Backer Bartness Rods. Anybody have any comments on either of these rods. I will using it to pitch jigs.

Not familiar with the Techna AV's. I have several of Tom's rods, I like them all really well. Tom has really taken his time to get the blanks to be what he wants.

I imagine your looking at the Rig-N rod for pitching? If so, that is probably my favorite of the current 4.

By the way - Tom and Dave (Randash) are presenting their seminar at this Thursday's FMWU meeting in Fargo (El Zagal). I know Dave and Tom were talking about a special during the meeting on the rods, but I don't know if they got it put together. They will have them on display, and both Tom and Dave (Bartness) will be there to answer any questions.

I have used them both extensively last year in all my tournaments, I liked Tom's rods. The was no difference in weight and feel between the two rods. They both stood up to a year of hard fishing, I broke one of each as well, so in my opinion no real perceptible difference.

I have many Techna AV's and really like them. I use the 6'6" LF for jigging and pitching.

I have used a Tom Backer rod(partner has a bouncer rod). The bouncer rod I thought was extremely well designed.

I see you are interested in a pitching rod. I have a rod being made (REW) right now that I think will be a super choice. It is the Rogue SJ 663S Spin Jig blank 6' 6". I have made rods for years, and Roger invited me to try this blank, so went over and look at it, WOW just what I have been looking for, so I commissioned him to make it for me. I wait in anticipation of it's use. I think it will be perfect for my pitching methods on the river. Here is the website for that rod:

Thanks for all the input Guys, I still can't decide on which rod I want. Many people like the techna av's and I have heard others say that the backer rods are IMX quality. I guess I will just have to try them out for myself.
