i have been (soaking) fishing line before putting it on the reel for about two years, it seems to help, mono does have a tendancy to absorb water, i always hold a wet paper towel on the line just before the line goes on the reel, it works for me!

sometimes there is a white powder or something on the line, the water and the paper towel helps get rid of it. i think by letting the mono soak up some water it goes on or lays better on the spool better. like i said it works for me.
