Decent radio

Am making a first trip to LOTW and may buy a handheld radio for an added safety precaution, does anyone have advice on brands or models that won't eat up too much of the new boat fund? thank you - erik

I have a Standard and have not had any problems. I can transmit between 2 to 4 miles depending on conditions. I can give you the model if you like I would have to go out and check, but it cost about $179.
