thinking of getting the offshore boards and tattle flag system are they hard to install and do they really help detect bites. Will use it for rainbows, salmon and walleyes.

thanks Frank

The tattle flags are awesome and are easy to to install, instructions are pretty straight forward. They are nice, they will tell you when you pick up debris or a small fish, that you would not normally see.

Pretty easy to make your own from hardware store parts... Save some $$$$

Great addition to the Off Shore boards. Easy to install and will detect many things you would have missed.

They work great. I bought my first set and couldn't believe I spent $18 on a spring a wire and a couple of washer's. I went to the hardware store and made several set's for a couple of bucks. Plus I bought different tension springs to swap out when I am running harnesses and cranks...

it's easy to rig up flags with common hardware as has been stated. what i do different is to use rubber bands instead of springs. many others have gone adapted this method and i've yet to find or hear of negative issues.

I will use rubberbands to adjust tension with kit springs....but your method sounds easier.

Where do you find your stainless steel springs at different tensions??

Sears Hardware has a ton of springs in all shapes, sizes, and tensions.

skip the springs altogether. adjust your tension by the number of bands you use. for example, i start with 4 for tots and light bouncers. 5 for heavier [1.5 - 2.5 oz] bouncers and deep little rippers. 6 for big bouncers, jets, and rr deep divers. adjust from there till you get the action you need. i use weldon's trolling rubber bands. at dick's for $2. also, i've added a new hole closer to the bottom of the board for better pretension in the bands.

I switchd over to the rubber band method two years ago Won't ever go back.Normally three to five bands will get you where you want to be.:grd:

Do any kind of bands to the trick? I am going to look around for the trolling bands.

Great site and tips.

Thanks
