I bought two new Diawa AD17's about a month ago, have them spooled up and ready to go. Now, there's a new model of AD17, is there enough of an improvement to the new models to warrant exchanging?
Thanks for the advise.

I have looked at the new AD's and to be honest cannot find a difference between them and the SG's. The description says that they both have disc drags and oil impregnated bushings. I have herd that the SG's have bearings but the catalog discriptions don't say it. I would trade the old model AD's if you can. The new ones are hands down better.
I'm trying to find out the same type of answer.
So far, it appears the 'model' number AD17 is the old, and possibly will become discontinued. This model has a black spool. I can't figure out why they would keep it since it is the same price as the next reel - the ADP.
Then there is the ADP17 - with the P standing for 'plus'. This is a new model, that appears to fill the same price category, and has an aluminum spool - other changes are ????
Then there is the AD17LCi - it looks like this reel is half way between the AD and the SG model in pricing, has an aluminum spool, infinite anti reverse - and unknown to me if it is a bushing or bearing spool. I think the key to identifying which model is the LCi is the 'infinite' anti reverse.
I used a 57 size LCi last year when fishing with a Diawa pro staff guy. Last weekend, we could not identify a AD57LCi as being offerred at the sportsman show. I really liked the 57 LCi for lead core - not sure if this model made it to production.
Like I said in an earlier post - it's getting a little confusing.

The LCi is not SG pricing I believe they where 10 higher than the AD's with the black spool.

I had the pleasure of testing the new Plus reels last year on Erie for a few months. I can honestly say they are in a whole different class then the old AD reels.
No more line behind the spool issues and no more slipping drags. These reels are the same as the old SG models that had the black spools with bushings.
The newer model SG have the 2 ball bearings and the gold spools.
