Every few years hundreds of frogs will sit along shore lines in certain areas in Manitoba and the Walleyes sit and wait for them to swim out into deeper water. I stumbled on to this 10 years ago when jigging with minnows close to shore on Lake Manitoba and catching a few eyes and when filleting them I checked out there bellies and guess what, All full of frogs. Fishing is fantastic during these times. Anyone else experience this in there area?:secret:
Yep, when the frogs are there naturally, they are a spectacular bait.
What I've noticed that is odd - is walleye absolutely POUND a frog - they hit really hard - all the time. Not sure why there is never a soft bite on a frog.
Need to use a multi hook rig. Too many bites behind a single hook rig.
Little different but In-Fisherman mentions the nite bite during the fall frog migration fairly often. Smallmouth on non-walleye lakes up north are pretty fond of frogs. I've caught several saugeye through the ice that had frogs in their belly.

Yes thats right mostly just after dark in and in the Fall.
catching and using frogs for bait could be illegal. Some states have open and closed seasons on them. Therefore any fish caught on them would be illegaly caught.

True - but if you don't mind snooping through the bass areas of the sotres or catalogs there are many plastics that immitate the size, shape and action of frogs - and some of them work well on a walleye sized jig - but the walleyes on the backwater sloughs of the Mississippi NEVER bite those in the fall - sshhhhh ;) Chuckles
