I found a couple deep runners in my tackle box as I was cleaning it out, making room for a couple Shad raps that every one here raves so much about. I see they are a little different, but not all that much, how noticeable is the performance, if at all??? BTW, I got one each of the Perch, firetiger, hot tiger, and hot steel in #5 and #7, 8 total. They look like they will be good ones for MN fishing, yes, no???

Do you mean deep runner Shad Raps? Your post is a little vague as to the exact lures you question.

Thanks for replying. I'll see if I can explain it better. I have 1 older lure about the size and shape of a #7 Shad rap, and 2 lures about the size and shape of a #5 Shad rap. They are older lures (I haven't bought a lure/crankbait in 10+ years). On the bill (the clear plastic part on the front of the lure where the split ring is, I don't know the technical name for it), the lure say's Rapala Deep Runner. The new Shad raps I got, just say Rapala on one side of the bill. Is the Shad rap a renamed Deep runner, or are they different lures, or ????? Thanks.

"Down Deep Rattlin Fat Rap" ........maybe?

I think the older Rapala Shad Raps were marked on the bills "Deep Runner". It's the same bait as what is now simply known as the "Shad Rap".

That was one of my thoughts. Rename something that works, in order to make it a surefire "new" product, in order to revive/gain new interest in it. Re-inventing the wheel????

I think your right toolman. If my memory serves me right the #7's were marked just "Deep Diver" but the #8's and #9's had the size number also stamped on the bill along with the "Deep Diver" print..

They look the same they are the same lure. The "Deep Runner' is no longer printed on the bill.

I would guess they put deep runner on there because before the shad rap they had the original rapala which did not go deep.
