View Full Version : Fenwick® Techna AV® Spinning
Thanks in advance for all your help. I recently posed on here asking about jigging rods and the action and such on the rods. I got a lot of useful information, but also learned I now have more questions. I know that I am going to get the Fenwick Techna AV or the Fenwick HMG. I will be using this rod for walleye, casting 1/16 to 3/8oz jigs and jigging as well. I have always liked a little stiffer rod, but have read a lot about people suggesting a medium light action for this rod. I don't want it to be too flimsy, but want to get used to what will improve my catch. I was looking at getting one 7ft and one 6"6'ft medium action with a fast tip. My biggest question or problem is picking the action of this rod. As I learned in my previous post, a medium action of one rod will be different than a medium action of another rod. I just feel with a little stiffer rod I can feel more, but maybe i'm looking at this wrong. Any information would be great.
Thanks!
If you're using Fireline or another no-stretch line, I would recommend Medium Light.
I have 2 6' HMG rods Medium Light action for jigging with Fireline and love the sensitivity.

hmg is a good choice for the dollar value
i would get
1-7'0 med light for 16th- 1/8th oz
and the 6-6" med for 1/4oz -3/8oz jigs
i also prefer stiffer actions
but the 7-0 in this action is also a nice rigging rod
my opinion...others may differ
manitoba .... a 100,000 lakes
how many walleyes ????
i will never have enough time....

I have a 6' Techna AV MF. If you like stiff rods the Techna are all that. However I found for light biter's this rod coupled with "fireline" or briaded is just too stiff. I use it with flouro or mono now and it's more forgiving. I do love the look and feel of this rod though. I now use a Shimano Crucial 6'3" M which I like for a slightly softer feel.

Tell you what. If you get the Techna AV I would get the LF on a 6' (AVS66LF) or a MLF on a 7' (AVS70MLF). The shorter rods are a little stiffer.
I think the ML will be just a tish too stiff for you on the short rod.

I have the Techna AV 6' medium action and its awesome for jigging. Put some 6lb fireline on it and your good to go.

I would suggest that you go to your tackle shop and get your hands on these and other rods and see what feels best to you. The shop should let you put a reel with line on them with a jig so you can see how they feel.
