I just installed a little M68 Lowrance color Sonar/GPS on my boat. I was out on the lake yesterday and the unit would show the bottom fine, but the depth "numbers" would not lock in...as in it would they were erratic, constantly up then down, up then down. The depth reading would go from 100+ ft' then down to 11' it was all over the place and would not lock on one depth. Maybe it's a bad transducer? and maybe I should have shut it off and re-started. I just turned it off. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

I've had that problem with one of my Pinpoints and was directed to select a range of depth very near the depth of water I would be in.
For example if you are going to be in 30' of water or less select a range on your finder that is just outside that range. For example in this situation select the range in the parameters 0-40'. Therefore your graph will not be searching or locking in on something deeper. Make sense?

Transducer in both situations. Had the same issue last year.

I think my depth was on auto. I will check that. I hope that is the issue. My old Lowrance just flashed a depth. This one the numbers just go haywire up and down. It won't lock in. The other thing is...why does Lowrance have so many issues with transducers???? I know personally 5 guys that have had to replace theirs me being one of them on a unit I used to have. Shouldn't one be enough for a lifetime??? You think they would get it right someday!

your best, most accurate and quickest response to your question will come straight from Lowrance. Check their website for troubleshooting info and tips. If you would rather just talk to someone, like I do, call them and ask for "technical". You may wait on the phone for 15 minutes but I guarantee they will know what your problem is right away. They have been around for a long time and have seen it all.
