Better is pretty subjective and completely in the eye of the beholder.
St. Croix makes top notch sticks. They only rod that is going to be better is the one that better suits your needs. If such a thing exists...

Better to have and not need than to need and not have!
I think they only way to get a better rod is to have one made to your specifics. I mean starting with the blank and having custom from the begingin to end. It would be very cost pronibitive as you would need many tests.

I think the "best" rod is the one that works for you. I have friends that say Loomis is the best. Others say St Croix is the Best. Still others swear by Lamiglas or even BPS or Cabelas rods. I've taken the position that I will look for rods that feel the best to me for each fishing application (and in my price range of course). Brand loyalty is not a factor for me.

Whatever happens to fit your needs/desires the best is the best for you. I have a 6' 3" St. Croix Legend Elite ES63MXF jigging rod, a 6' 2" Loomis walleye series jigging rod WJR741S and a 5' 9" Gary Roach "Pulse" rod made for Berkley, probably in Taiwan in about 1998 or so. I wish that Berkley still sold the Gary Roach pulses. Does that say something?

St. Croix and Loomis are great sticks. One rod that has gotten pretty popular around here is Jason Mitchell's Elite Series Rods. These rods are noticibly light which feels good to me. I think they are some of the best rods I have ever fished with and they are cheaper than loomis.
